Our Clay Pebbles 8-20mm (45L) are high-quality LECA (Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregates) specially designed for modern horticulture, hydroponic systems, and sustainable construction projects. These expanded clay pellets are kiln-fired at high temperatures to produce a lightweight, porous, and durable medium that delivers excellent drainage, aeration, and water retention.
Ideal for a wide range of growing applications, these clay balls improve root health by providing oxygen-rich conditions while preventing waterlogging and compaction. They are pH neutral, inert, reusable, and free from pathogens—making them a reliable and clean substrate for both home gardeners and commercial growers.
Clay pebbles are suitable for use in hydroponics, aquaponics, potted plant growing, soil improvement, mulching, and even in green roofing and filtration systems. The 8–20mm grade offers a versatile size range that works well in small to medium pots, troughs, and growing beds.
Whether you're a professional horticulturist or an enthusiastic hobby grower, these clay pebbles offer a high-performance solution for healthy, productive plants with less maintenance.
Features & Benefits
Lightweight and porous – Promotes excellent aeration around plant roots
pH neutral & inert – Chemically stable and safe for sensitive plants
Reusable & long-lasting – Can be cleaned and reused multiple times
Improves water retention & drainage – Reduces the risk of overwatering
Natural pest prevention – Limits soil-borne pests and fungal issues
Multi-purpose – Ideal for hydroponics, aquaponics, houseplants, green roofs, and filtration
Applications
Hydroponics & Aquaponics: Used as a growing medium in recirculating and drain-to-waste systems for crops such as tomatoes, peppers, herbs, leafy greens, and more. Perfect for flood and drain (ebb & flow), NFT, and Dutch bucket systems.
Potting & Houseplants: Mixed into soil or used alone in semi-hydro setups to promote air flow and prevent root rot. Excellent for orchids, succulents, and tropical plants.
Top Dressing / Mulching: Applied as a layer on top of soil to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and create a clean, attractive finish for planters and beds.
Soil Improvement: Blended with compost or soil to increase drainage, especially in heavy clay or compacted soils.
Filtration Media: Used in water treatment, pond filters, and fish farming systems due to its ability to host beneficial bacteria.
Insulation Layer: Ideal under flooring or roofing systems in green roof construction, offering insulation and water regulation.
Application Rate
Hydroponics: Fill net pots, grow beds, or system containers as required. Rinse before use to remove dust.
Soil Improvement: Mix at a ratio of 1 part clay pebbles to 3–4 parts soil or compost.
Mulch: Apply a 2–4cm layer around plants as a top dressing.
